Hello! Thank you for visiting my new website. My name is Shannon Adelson. When I was growing up, our house always had library shelves filled with scrapbooks, photo albums, and other memorabilia documenting the family’s various adventures and journeys. During most of my youth, music was at the forefront of my studies and activities. I suppose I took for granted that images just showed up in the visual records of our lives. I never really gave much thought to how these journals were populated, it just seemed like the important moments were magically collected and organized to preserve those memories for the future. It wasn’t until much later in life when I got behind the lens and started participating in the process of recording the people, places and events around me.
I used to take pictures, lots of pictures, of anything and everything that moved in front of my lens. The “spray and pray” technique was really all I knew when I bought my first DSLR and started snapping that shutter button back in 2005. And then a few years ago a friend introduced me to CreativeLIVE, which quickly transformed my photo hobby into an obsession. I studied every tutorial I could find, practicing basic exercises over and over until I understood both the mechanics and the underlying reasoning. I repeated this process for many months, until my obsession gradually morphed into the start of a new career.
Once I made the decision to pursue professional photography full-time, I enhanced my arsenal by joining the National Association of Photoshop Professionals. Their online tutorials from industry experts are legendary, and rapidly catapulted my photo skills beyond what I could have imagined. The process of taking pictures was always fun; but recently I discovered the joy and wonder of making portraits, which was a completely different experience for me than grabbing a simple snapshot. Using creative compositional elements like light, color, framing, gesture, expression, and depth of field, every image can tell its own story. If I may assist you in adding precious visual stories to your family's archive, please feel free to contact me via the link in the navigation menu above.
