Adelson Media, Inc.
Character Candids & Performance Portraits
Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my new website. My name is Shannon Adelson, and I am a Professional Portrait Photographer. You’ll usually find me pointing my lens at artists and entertainers, including musicians, actors, comedians, and other performers. Over the past couple of years I’ve had the pleasure of documenting dozens of these talented people, not only covering their events, but getting to know their personalities and the magic elements that make them tick.
Back when I was studying music in college, YouTube hadn’t even been invented yet. People still bought records and CDs to expand their music collection, and often first discovered a new band by going to their live concert. The current proliferation of online marketing tools and social media channels has completely changed the way creatives promote their passions. However, one thing still remains the same after all this time: Artists want their work to be seen, heard, and appreciated.
The modern photographer is a visual storyteller, but the tools with which that story is told are constantly changing and evolving. We live in an era when nearly everyone has a camera on their smart phone, and a handful of apps to immediately edit and stylize the resulting images before sharing online with family and friends. So what distinguishes a professional photographer from anybody who owns a fancy camera? I can't speak for anyone else, but if you'd like to read my answer to that question, click here to learn more about my journey from hobby to obsession to business owner.
I offer a special brand of Lifestyle & Event Photography which operates beyond the traditional framework. When you browse through the images below you won’t find any generic posed shots, or stereotypical studio setups. All of the images I capture are authentic moments documented as they happened naturally. One of the greatest benefits of running your own business is a flexible schedule. This allows me to offer convenient options that work for a variety of different lifestyles. I think Alfred Eisenstaedt said it best: "It is more important to click with people than to click the shutter." Making a portrait is truly a collaboration between the artist and the subject. I take the time to get to know all of my clients, so that when we are finished we have likely become friends in the process. Paul Caponigro said that "It's one thing to take a picture of what a person looks like, it's another thing to make a portrait of who they are" and that simply can't be done well unless one takes the time to really listen and learn about the people they are working with. Since every person is different, no two client experiences will be exactly the same. But what they share is a commitment to not only making you look your best, but also celebrating your individuality.
The moments and stories that photographs bring back to life are often testaments to what we value most. A cherished memory becomes that much more powerful with a tangible reminder we can hold onto. Almost every professional photographer I’ve ever worked with has been overwhelmed by that rewarding feeling when a client is at a loss for words, because they are temporarily awestruck with appreciation that we froze a special moment in time for them. In my opinion, choosing your photographer is primarily a quest for compatibility. If my style is a match for your taste, and you’ve reviewed the sample images and like what you see, then I’ll be happy to discuss finding the right price point to meet your specific needs. One of the reasons I’m so pleased to be hosting my website here on the Smugmug platform is the customizable pricing variables, allowing me greater flexibility in offering the best products and services while keeping the costs reasonable. If you’d like to make a unique portrait together, please use the CONTACT link in the navigation menu above to send me an email with any questions you may have, so we can begin getting to know one another.
